Down the TBR Hole #53

Down The TBR Hole is a meme created by lost in a story that revolves around cleansing your TBR of all those books you’re never going to read and sort through it all to know what’s actually on there.

The rules:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 (or even more!) if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course, if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Now for the list:

Picking up from where I left off:

Megabat by Anna Humphrey

This looks like such a cute story! It’s a middle grade chapter book about a boy who moves into a new house and finds a bat living their and they become friends. The book tackles loneliness, but it’s also got a lot of humor, too! A coworker recommended this book to me and I have always meant to read it, but just haven’t got the chance yet. Hopefully I will soon!

Verdict: KEEP

A Room Away From the Woods by Nova Ren Suma

This is another book recommend to me by a coworker. It’s a young adult novel with a creepy atmosphere and a bit of magical realism. It follows the story of a girl who runs away from home after her mother remarries. I’ve never read anything by this author before. I think when I initially heard my coworker’s description of it, it sounded really interesting, but looking at it now, it doesn’t really sound like something I would be keen to read. I might change my mind later, but for now I think I’ll pass.

Verdict: GO

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

I’ve talked a lot on this blog about my love for all things Agatha Christie. This is one of her books thst I’ve seen a movie adaptation of but have not had the pleasure of reading yet. It’s one of her stand-alones where a group of people who are all being blackmailed are invited to a remote estate and then they started getting murdered one by one… I loved the adaptation I saw, but I want to read the book as well, since I love Christie’s writing so much.

Verdict: KEEP

Stray City by Chelsey Johnson

I think I came across this book in a local bookstore and was initially drawn to it because it has a cat on the cover. It’s actually about a woman who sheds her old live and moves to Portland, joining a welcoming lesbian community. When she has a drunken one night stand with a man and winds up pregnant, a lot of upheaval ensues. This book is advertised as a anti-romantic comedy. It seems like it could be really interesting, but I think I’m going to set it aside fore now.

Verdict: GO

My Girls: A Lifetime With Carrie and Debbie by Todd Fisher

I was so saddened by the death of Carrie Fisher and, shortly after, her mother Debbie Reynolds. I have been a huge fan of Debbie and Carrie since I was young. Singing in the Rain is one of my favorite musical movies and I’m a huge Star Wars fan. I have read a couple of Carrie’s books, but this will be the first biography of her that I’ve read, and it’s by her brother. I’m sure I’ll probably cry while reading it.

Verdict: KEEP

Results:

Kept: 3

Discarded: 2

Thoughts?

So, what do you think? Any books I cut that you wouldn’t? Any books that I’m keeping that aren’t worth my time? Let me know! I’d love to hear from you. See you next week for another meme post.
