My book choice:
In the case of the book on the left, I think it totally doesn’t match the contents of the book. I’ve read Sadie and can honestly say that nothing that this cover seems to be depicting ever happens in the story. It’s way too horror-movie-esq to fit the tone or content of the book. Not cool.
I dislike the book on the right because it also doesn’t really match the book, either. I don’t get why this cover depicts a girl with an up-do. Sadie isn’t the kind of person to wear an up-do and most of the time, she’s on the road, fending for herself, often without the ability to shower or change clothes. The woman on this cover is much to clean and made-up to fit Sadie’s look. I also don’t particularly get the font looking like it was written with crayon.
I think I need to go with the English (US) version, here. I just really like the font, the minimal colors, and the partially colored-in image of the girl. I also like that her face is obscured (by hair!) because I prefer book covers not to have a predetermined look to characters.
I think this is a simple, yet enticing cover, though I wish it wasn’t cluttered with things like “New York Times Bestseller” and a blurb review from another author. Otherwise, I definitely like it the best out of all the other editions.
